Egede-Nissen achieved widespread recognition for her role as Cara Carozza in Fritz Lang's iconic two-part film, Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler. This landmark work of German Expressionism was a critical and commercial success, elevating her status as a leading actress in Weimar cinema.

She further cemented her reputation with a significant role in Fritz Lang's ambitious epic, Die Nibelungen. Appearing in both Die Nibelungen: Siegfried and Die Nibelungen: Kriemhilds Rache, she was part of one of the most monumental productions of the silent era.
