The International Make-Up Artist Trade Show in London has come and gone, and we look back on what made this show the largest and best yet. Thousands of attendees networked with dozens of exhibitors and educators to make the show a stunning success. Jon Hennessey: Picture Perfect

Jon Hennessey always hoped to return to his home of Vancouver, B.C., leaving the busy life of New York City behind. After gaining years of make-up experience in the big city, and surviving the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, he has finally followed his path home, bringing his wife and baby with him. He is now beautifying the Vancouver print scene with his expertise and inspiration.

Steve LaPorte gets Lost

On a tropical island in Hawaii, Steve LaPorte wakes up every day and breathes in the fresh air. But this make-up artist isn't on vacation, he's the make-up department head on the smash-hit television series, Lost. The evolving plot and harrowing experiences that the cast goes through makes consistency a big part of his work. We visit Hawaii to talk with Steve about his work on the show.

Matthew Mungle: Death Becomes Him

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've no doubt noticed the strong presence of corpses and medical investigation shows on television lately. The mastermind behind many of the bodies and effects is none other than Matthew Mungle. We take a look at the life and techniques of the man behind the work.

Sin City set a new standard in movie-making. Filmed in front of a green screen and in color, the film was then presented in black-and-white with dazzling accents of color. This created an unusual challenge for make-up artist Greg Nicotero and his make-up team. This use of color combined with creating the distorted characters in the Frank Miller comic-book-based film was an unusual undertaking, with stunning results.

All eyes were on Hilary Swank on Oscar night. Of course, she took home the Best Actress award for her role in Million Dollar Baby. But garnering as much attention as her award was her stunning presence accentuated by her floor-length gown and her radiant make-up, created by Scott Andrew, celebrity make-up artist. We follow Andrews' path to success, from his artistic upbringing to his career-start at Vince Malardi's Alcone store in New York.

Make-up artist legend Dick Smith celebrates two milestones this year; 2005 marks 60 years in the make-up business as he turns 83 years old. Dick was honored with a lifetime achievement award at IMATS/LA in June, and we ask Smith how it is that he is as active and involved in make-up during his retirement as he was 20 years ago.

Make-Up Artist magazine promised the 'biggest make-up show ever' for 2005 in Pasadena. It was a tall order, but we delivered. Among highlights of the show, held at the Pasadena Convention Center on June 25-26, were keynote addresses by Dave Elsey (Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith), Scott Barnes (celebrity make-up artist) and Bill Corso (Oscar winner for Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events.) The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe

Howard Berger and the team at KNB Effects were granted the challenge of bringing CS Lewis' characters to life on the big screen. Up until now, technology was not advanced enough to create this fantastical story on film in a way that did justice to the story. But Berger and his team were up for the task, creating 170 characters from 23 individual species, real and fantastic, for the film.

Kevin Scott Hees

After 15 years as a professional make-up artist and a photographer, (10 of those years spent in California), Kevin Scott Hees recently moved to New York City. Having worked as a model and photographer, Kevin started doing his models' make-up on the side. A lucky mistake brought Kevin into the professional world of make-up artistry in the mid-90s, when his photo portfolio was sent to Kevin Aucoin and Aucoin in turn noticed the make-up and gave Kevin his big break. We take a look at Kevin's career so far.
